HIPAA & Medical Information

As a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation provider, Carevion is subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and treats health-related information as Protected Health Information (PHI).

How We Protect PHI

  • All medical information is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption protocols
  • Access to PHI is restricted to authorized staff on a need-to-know basis
  • Staff members who handle PHI receive regular HIPAA compliance training
  • We maintain a comprehensive HIPAA compliance program including written policies, risk assessments, and breach response procedures
  • We execute Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with all vendors who may access PHI

Notice of Privacy Practices

As required by HIPAA, we provide a Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) to all patients receiving services that may involve PHI. The NPP describes your rights regarding your health information and our privacy practices in detail. You may request a copy at any time by contacting us.

Breach Notification

In the unlikely event of a data breach involving unsecured PHI, we will notify affected individuals and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in accordance with HIPAA's Breach Notification Rule — within 60 days of discovery, or sooner if required.
